Independence Day 2023
Thar Institute of Engineering, Sciences and Technology has celebrated Pakistan’s Independence Day on 14th August 2023. Pakistan’s National flag was hoisted by the Worthy Vice Chancellor NED University Prof. Dr. Sarosh Hasmat Lodi, who travelled all the way from Karachi and graced his presence on this historical occasion. The Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tufail, all deans, Director Finance, Registrar and Deputy Registrar, NED University accompanied the Vice Chancellor. Later, the participants walked from Computer Science Department to Civil Engineering Department of TIEST.
Koders Kombat 2023
Koders Kombat 2023 was a coding and web development competition organized by the Koders Club an official community of CS&IT department, NED University, Karachi. The competition was organized on 9th June 2023 at Department of Computer Science & Information Technology Laboratories. The purpose of Koders Kombat 2023 was to gage undergraduate students in problem solving skills and to test student’s analytical and rational thinking intensity in coding. The competition was held in two rounds in which TIEST students participated and won special price of participation in both coding and Web Development competitions.
Maajee Scholarship 2023
NED University Alumnus Mr. Aftab Rizvi has initiated a scholarship titled MAAJI. His moto is now no student will remain deprived of education due to financial resources. This year (2023), NED students whose family income was less than or up to Rs. 38000/- were selected for this scholarship. Maaji scholarship of rupees One Hundred Thousand was awarded to 105 students on Merit-cum-Need basis. Six TIEST’s students were also benefited with this scholarship.
Koders Kombat 2022
Koders Kombat 2022 was a live coding competition organized by the Koders Club an official community of CS&IT department, NED University, Karachi. The competition was arranged in 3rd International Conference on Innovations in Computer Science & Software Engineering (ICONICS 22). The conference was held on 14th & 15th of December 2022 at NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi.
The purpose of Koders Kombat 2022 was to gage undergraduate students in problem solving skills and to test student’s analytical and rational thinking intensity. The competition was held in two rounds in which TIEST students participated and won 3rd position in programming and problem-solving skills.
Kashmir Solidarity Day
Thar Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (TIEST) organized a seminar on 5th of February 2023. The purpose of this seminar was to show solidarity with the people of Kashmir. TIEST faculty, staff and students actively participated in the seminar. Mr. Sanjay Turkio Additional Deputy Commissioner-II Tharparkar graced his presence and briefed about the importance of Kashmir and its impact on relations of India and Pakistan. Principal TIEST Prof. Dr. Nasir Uddin Shaikh emphasized on the freedom of kashmir according to their right of self-determination. The participants protested against the Indian oppression of Kashmir. The event was ended with special prayer for the liberation of Kashmir.
TIEST First Sports Week
TIEST sports committee has organized first sports week in the last week of December 2022. Number of teams from both Civil Engineering and Computer Science Departments of TIEST participated in the event. Cricket, football, volleyball, tug of war, badminton, and table tennis were played in the event. There was something for everyone interest and enjoyment. The competitions were fierce, all teams putted their best efforts to claim victory.
Prize distribution ceremony was held at the last day of the event and the winners and runner-up teams were awarded their prizes. Principal TIEST Prof. Dr. Nasir Uddin Shaikh distributed the prizes and shared his thoughts on the importance of sports in the institute. Sports committee was appreciated for their hard work and dedication in planning, organizing and making the event a success.
TEST and NED-Olympiad 2.0
NED-Olympiad 2.0 was a sports event organized by NSA Society of NED University. The event was held on 9th, 10th and 11th of January 2023. TIEST students traveled NED University and actively participated in the event. The students of both Civil Engineering and Computer Science Departments of TIEST enthusiastically prepared themselves and participated in Football, Cricket, Rally Race, Badminton, Tug of War and Chess. TIEST students performed very well in almost all of the games and gave tough competition to the opponent teams. TIEST students played quarter-finals of cricket and Chess. TIEST students played semi-final of rally race and secure fourth position. TIEST students played final of football match and secure second position. Overall, TIEST students played exceptionally well and left their footprint in NED-Olympiad 2.0. They are determined to participate stronger next time.
